Phila. man, swept out to sea, dies at Jersey Shore

Police say a Philadelphia man died after being swept out to sea by a wave at the Jersey Shore.

Point Pleasant Beach police say 25-year-old Johnson Thomas was in the water near the Manasquan Inlet when a large wave separated him from his two friends Monday night. The Coast Guard found Thomas unresponsive in the water.

A Coast Guard member began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and Thomas was taken to Ocean Medical Center in Brick, where he was pronounced dead. - AP
