Britt Reid fails to reach plea deal

Britt Reid, the son of Eagles coach Andy Reid, failed to reach a plea agreement yesterday on charges of driving under the influence and drug and traffic offenses.

It means Britt Reid will likely go to trial on the charges next month, which stem from an incident in August. He is already in jail on charges stemming from a road-rage incident in January.

"I highly doubt we can come to any resolution," Senior Deputy Attorney General E. Marc Costanzo said after conferring with Reid's lawyers for the better part of five hours yesterday in a Norristown courtroom.

Reid, 22, of Villanova, was out on bail for the road-rage incident when witnesses at a Plymouth Township sporting-goods store reported to police that Reid was too confused to find his truck, which was parked right outside the building.

Police found more than 200 pills strewn about Reid's truck while searching it.

Reid was then sent to jail for violating a condition of bail from the January case.

Reid's lawyer thought the issue yesterday was Reid's desire to keep his driver's license after he leaves prison.

"He hasn't expressed that, but at 22 that's what I thought about," William Honig said.

In November, Montgomery County Judge Steven T. O'Neill sentenced Reid to 8 to 23 months in jail and suspended his driver's license for six months for the January incident. Reid flashed a handgun at another driver and was found to have small amounts of marijuana and cocaine in his vehicle.

If he is found not guilty of the August charges, Reid would be able to drive six months after his release from jail, Honig said. But if Reid is convicted or pleads guilty to the newer charges, his license could be suspended for two more years.

Another son of the Eagles coach, Garrett Reid, 24, was sentenced in November for drug and traffic charges stemming from a January traffic accident.

He still faces charges after smuggling prescription pills into jail. He was held on a bail violation awaiting sentencing when the drugs were found.
