A homeless man who was beaten at a Camden park died Monday at Cooper University Hospital, more than two weeks after he was assaulted.

Camden County authorities have been trying, without success, to locate relatives of the victim, John Anthony Smith, 54, a former resident of Pennsauken.

Emergency workers found Smith in the 3900 block of Federal Street, in East Camden, on Aug. 30. Before losing consciousness, Smith said several men had beaten him. Police do not believe any weapons were used, and they do not know the motive for the attack.

Anyone with information about Smith or his assailants should call Senior Investigator Lance Saunders of the Camden County Prosecutor's Office at 856-225-8400 or Camden Police Detective Wayne Matthews at 856-757-7420. - Troy Graham
