Accused boy can attend slain brother's funeral

A 13-year-old Lansdowne boy accused of fatally stabbing his 16-year-old brother over a video game will be allowed to attend his brother's funeral today, a Delaware County judge has ruled.

Jahmir Ricks, shackled and in custody of deputy sheriffs, will be given several moments for a private viewing at the service for Antwan Ricks in Lansdowne, Judge Frank T. Hazel ruled Monday.

"My boys loved each other. I know it was an accident," a tearful Christine Ricks told Hazel. "I know [Antwan] would want his little brother there."

Jahmir Ricks, charged with first-degree murder, was not in court, and defense attorney Lisa DiNicola said the boy was undergoing a psychiatric examination. Police said Antwan Ricks apparently was stabbed with a steak knife July 15 when he would not turn over a video game controller after losing a game to his younger brother. - AP
