2 of 3 suspects arrested in Frankford carjacking

Police have arrested two of three men who allegedly hijacked a 21-year-old man's car at gunpoint in the Frankford section, authorities said yesterday.

The carjacking occurred about 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of Harrison Street. The victim, shaken but unharmed, walked home and called police.

When two Bomb Disposal Unit officers spotted the car at Mulberry and Pratt Streets, the three carjackers tried to get away but crashed into parked cars on Cottage Street near Jackson. The trio then fled on foot and a Highway Patrol sergeant caught two of them, police said.

Charged with robbery, aggravated assault, firearms violations and other offenses were Derrick Hunt, 29, of the 1900 block of Pratt Street, and Ramon Melendez, 34, of the 2000 block of Bridge Street, police said. The third man was being sought. - Joseph A. Gambardello
