Two more men charged in July robbery of Lower Merion deli Hymie's

Police in Lower Merion said Friday that they had identified all six suspects they think are connected with an armed holdup in July that terrorized 19 people at Hymie's, a Main Line deli and restaurant.

Two Philadelphia men were arrested this week, bringing to five the number in custody. Police identified the two as James Dumas, 41, of the 900 block of East Locust Avenue, and Marquis Budd, 20, of the 5500 block of Devon Street.

A sixth suspect is still being sought, Lt. Frank Higgins said.

"At this point, we believe we have identified everyone involved, but certainly, the investigation is continuing," Higgins said.

Dumas was arrested Wednesday in Philadelphia. Budd turned himself in Thursday to Lower Merion police.

On Thursday, a district court judge remanded both to the Montgomery County Prison when they could not post bail, set at $50,000 for Dumas and $100,000 for Budd.

Police said the two were part of a team that burst into Hymie's, on Montgomery Avenue in Merion, at 9:03 p.m. July 14 and forced patrons and employees to lie on the floor before robbing them at gunpoint.

Three of the four had handguns, police have said. No one was injured.

Police said the men were scared off by a noise from the back of the deli and fled before emptying the cash drawer.

Their take included about $3,500 in restaurant proceeds the manager had in his pocket, and several boxes of candy.

Police said they were able to trace the suspects because one parked his car in a lot near the deli.

The others previously arrested and charged with robbery were: John Leroy Moore Jr., 34, and Terrence Lee Albright, 24, both of the 5600 block of Nelson Street, Philadelphia, and Michael S. Schaefer, 40, whose last address was unclear.

The men were being held at the Montgomery County Prison.
