Will today make it an official heat wave in Philadelphia?

Philadelphia could have its second official heat wave of the summer today.

After high temperatures of 92 degrees on Monday and 93 degrees on Tuesday, forecasters say another 93-degree day is on tap today, making this week second stretch of three consecutive days with 90-plus temperatures in Philadelphia this summer.

A heat advisory is in effect for the region from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. The advisory means the combination of hot temperatures and high humidity makes heat illness possible, the National Weather Service says.

Also like Monday and Tuesday, the weather service says there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms today. Storms are most likely to happen after 1 p.m.

The heat advisory says people should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned areas, stay out of the sun or only do strenuous activity in the morning or evening, and check on neighbors, especially the elderly.

Overnight, temperatures will only drop into the low-to-mid-70s, the weather service says.

Thursday should be a bit cooler, with a forecasted high of 88 degrees and more thunderstorms expected. The temperature should slightly drop again on Friday, with an expected high of 85 degrees, and the potential for more thunderstorms on the radar.

Philadelphia's first heat wave of 2013 was recorded May 29 through June 1.

Tuesday's high of 93 degrees tied the high for the year far. The mercury also climbed to 93 on May 30, May 31 and June 1.
