Warm week ahead for Philadelphia

Summer officially arrived on Friday -- and this week will feel like it.

High temperatures in the 90s are expected for the next four days, the National Weather Service says.

A high of 90 degrees is forecasted for today, with highs of 91, 94 and 90 to follow on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

There's a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms all four days, forecasters say. Some of the storms could involve heavy downpours and strong winds.

Those temperatures are a few degrees above normal. Late June days typically see highs of around 85 or 86 degrees, according to weather service records.

The expected temperatures are also well below the record highs. Today's record high, for instance, is 99 degrees. And the record for June 26 is 100 degrees.

The heat and humidity this week will hit East Coast cities from Washington, D.C. to Boston, AccuWeather says.

A cold front is expected to move through the region at the end of the week, though, leading to cooler temperatures on Friday and over the weekend.
