Police: Traffic stop along Del. highway yields 10 pounds of pot

George Bolzoni, of Union City, was arrested after Delaware State Police pulled him over for speeding along Sussex Highway but found more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside his car, according to investigators.

A traffic stop along a Delaware highway resulted in a felony drug charge after investigators found more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside the trunk of a motorist's car, police said.

A trooper patrolling Sussex Highway, near County Seat Highway, pulled over a white Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling over the speed limit shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the Delaware State Police.

The driver, 27-year-old George Bolzoni, behaved suspiciously as the trooper questioned him and gave conflicting answers regarding where he was headed, police said.

A consent search of the vehicle turned up three large, sealed cardboard mailing boxes inside the trunk. Bolzoni was unable to explain their contents, according to investigators.

A state police K-9 was brought in to scan the car and alerted troopers to the presence of illegal drugs inside the boxes.

Once opened, the boxes were found to contain nine vacuum-sealed packages filled with marijuana totaling about 4,725 grams, police said.

Bolzoni, of Union City, N.J., was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding.

He was jailed in the Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $20,500 secured bond.
