Spring-like temperatures to start season, but more snow on the way?

After enduring the city's second-snowiest winter ever, Philadelphians will enjoy temperatures that actually feel like spring when the season officially begins today.

But the official season shift doesn't necessarily mean we've seen the last of winter weather.

The astronomical spring starts at 12:57 p.m. today.

Some warm temperatures are also on tap to start the season: The National Weather Service is forecasting highs of 54 degrees today, 53 degrees Friday and 65 degrees Saturday.

After some morning fog clears today, all three days are expected to be largely sunny, the weather service says. Forecasted highs for today and Friday are right around average, while Saturday's expected high would be 10 degrees above normal.

But much lower temperatures -- accompanied by the possibility of yet more snow -- are expected next week in Philadelphia.

The weather service says to expect a high temperature of 49 degrees Sunday, followed by highs of around 40 on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, as another front of cold air from the arctic moves through the mid-Atlantic region.

And there's a chance of rain and snow on Tuesday.

Forecasters say it's too early to tell whether any precipitation next week will come as rain or snow.

"The dividing line between rain and snow and the magnitude of the storm are uncertain," according to AccuWeather senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

But after the snowfall already seen this winter, some forecasters are bracing for more.

"It is too early to say for sure if everything will come together to make a large snowstorm and exactly where that will be," senior meteorologist Bernie Rayno said on AccuWeather. "But, if you go by pattern repetition this winter, the odds favor a significant snowfall for part of Atlantic Seaboard during the middle of next week."
