Snow possible in Philly area next week?

Could the first snow of the season hit the Philadelphia region next week?

It's possible, forecasters say, but snow-lovers shouldn't raise their hopes too much just yet.

A cold front from Canada will move south during the middle of next week, a National Weather Service forecast discussion says. That should result in below-normal temperatures -- and maybe even a bit of snow.

At this point, the forecast for mid-week remains uncertain, the weather service says. But, forecasters say, "if the guidance holds its course, we may see some of the first flakes for the season through much of the area."

The possibility of snow exists for much of the mid-Atlantic, according to the Weather Channel, as the arctic high pressure system from Canada moves south at the same time a low pressure system from the Southeast United States moves north along the East Coast.

Earlier in the week, a small chance of snow also exists for the northern part of the region Monday night into Tuesday, when a low pressure system brings a cold front through the area.

"Snow and rain showers will be possible as the front moves into the region," the weather service says. Still, meteorologists say precipitation in the Philadelphia area then is "more likely to remain rain as opposed to snow."

Later in November, a number of large, slow-moving storm systems are expected to hit across the country, an AccuWeather forecast says, with rounds of snow showers or wintry mixes possible in the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
