A pair of vehicle stops conducted Thursday in Camden County resulted in the discovery of heroin – a "significant quantity" of which was hidden inside a man's body, according to investigators.

Police said Anthony Adams, 29, was pulled over after patrol officers saw him participate in a suspected drug deal in the parking lot of the Wawa at 2700 Sicklerville Road.

Both Adams and passenger Tyeisha Jackson, 32, were arrested and charged with possessing hypodermic needles.

While Adams was in a cruiser en route to police headquarters, officers saw him "consistently reaching in the rear of his pants," the Gloucester Township Police Department said in a news release.

A body cavity search conducted at a local hospital turned up "several bundles" of heroin inside Adams, investigators said.

Though police did not disclose the exact amount of the drug recovered, each bundle of heroin is generally comprised of 10 bags, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.

Adams, of Atco, was charged with additional offenses of second-degree controlled substance distribution and third-degree controlled substance possession.

He was jailed at the Camden County Jail on $100,000 full cash bail.

Police said they recovered more heroin, along with clonazepam pills and hypodermic syringes, from a second car whose occupants were believed to have participated in the suspected drug transaction.

Taken into custody were driver Jonathan Ryan, 26, and passengers Charles Yates, 29, and Earl Shone, 26.

All three men were charged with third-degree controlled substance possession and possession of a hypodermic syringe.
