A Philadelphia police officer is facing drunk-driving charges after a Monday night crash.

Philadelphia police said 53-year-old Officer Joseph Kelly was in an accident with another vehicle on the 4900 block of Woodland Avenue at about 9:20 p.m.

He appeared impaired at the scene and was detained for a breathalyzer test, which showed his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, police said. Authorities didn't disclose his blood alcohol level.

He is charged with driving under the influence.

The 23-year veteran is assigned to the traffic unit and will be assigned to administrative duty pending further investigation.

He had been assigned to the "traffic unit." Yeah, that was a good fit.

It's surprising it even got this far. I know of some cops pulled over for DUI, and they're usually let go.

The cop was not pulled over for a DUI. He caused an accident, and then staggered out of the car drunk. That's probably why he got the DUI.

In other news, the cop that pulled him over was assigned to walk a beat from SW Philly to Roosevelt Boulevard and Woodhaven Rd on the 3rd shift.

Was he on duty? How can you not mention that!!! Look at his eyes. He looks wasted in the picture. Is that his mug shot or official police photo?
