Woman injured on SEPTA tracks in Center City

Authorities are investigating after a woman was injured on SEPTA tracks in Center City this morning.

The incident happened at the 5th Street Station on the Market-Frankford Line around 11 a.m.

SEPTA spokeswoman Heather Redfern said the operator of an incoming westbound train saw the 59-year-old woman in the track area as he was breaking to stop at the station.

The woman was found under the first car of the train, but it wasn't immediately clear whether she was struck by the vehicle, Redfern said.

Officials are determining how she got onto the tracks.

The woman was taken to a hospital for treatment. Her injuries and condition weren't known.

Shuttle bus service was in place between the Spring Garden and 15th Street stations for more than an hour while emergency personnel responded to the scene. Normal train service resumed shortly after noon, SEPTA said.
