Pa. woman who vanished in 2002 now in Fla. jail

A woman who was presumed dead after she disappeared from central Pennsylvania in 2002 but resurfaced this month is now in a Florida jail.

Santa Rosa County jail records show that Brenda Heist is being held without bond for a probation violation, under the alias "Kelsie Smith."

The Pensacola New Journal reports that she was on probation for using someone else's identification at a traffic stop. She violated the terms of the probation when she took a bus to Tampa without checking in with authorities, the newspaper reports.

Heist vanished from Lititz, Pa., after dropping her children off for school in 2002. She was declared dead in 2009.

She turned herself in to sheriff's deputies in Florida, where she had been living, earlier this month and told them she was a missing person.
