Man killed leaping from SEPTA train

A man was killed when he tried to leap between two cars on an out-of-service SEPTA train overnight.

The man was jumping between two cars on a moving, out-of-service northbound train on the Broad Street Line shortly after 1:30 a.m., said Heather Redfern, a SEPTA spokeswoman.

He hit a pillar on the platform at the North Philadelphia station and was killed.

It wasn't immediately known why the man was on the train or why he jumped. The circumstances of the incident are still under investigation.

The man was about 55 years old, Redfern said. Other identifying information wasn't available.

He was pronounced dead at the station.
