Humidity, thunderstorms expected in Philly today

Forecasters say it will be another warm, humid day in Philadelphia, with thunderstorms expected in the area during the afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service is calling for a high temperature of 89 degrees today in Philadelphia -- 9 degrees above normal, but below Wednesday's high of 94. Despite the forecast for rain, the heat is expected to remain through the day Thursday.

"The storms will not break the hot and humid conditions until Thursday night," senior meteorologist Alex Sosnowski writes in an AccuWeather forecast.

A cold front is forecasted to move through the area later in the day, triggering rounds of showers and thunderstorms.

The weather service says precipitation is most likely after noon, with the highest chances for rain between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Some of the storms could bring strong wind gusts, heavy rain and frequent lightning, forecasters say.

Friday and the weekend are expected to have much lower temperatures and less humidity, with forecasted highs of 74 on Friday, 70 on Saturday and 78 on Sunday.
