Next hearing scheduled on Philly casino license

Another hearing about Philadelphia's second casino license is scheduled for next month, this time to gather input from the city.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said today that the hearing will take place Sept. 24 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Six groups are in the process of bidding for the casino license.

The board said it expects Philadelphia officials to present a review of the positive and negative aspects of each project.

Board chairman William Ryan told the Inquirer in May that he would listen closely to what Mayor Nutter and other city officials have to say about the applicants.

"All we can do is rely on the city" to tell board members "what they see as a good or not so good issue with a particular casino," he told the newspaper.

The hearing, which is open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m.

The applicants presented their proposals at a public forum in February at the convention center, and additional hearings were held in April and May at Lincoln Financial Field.

Later this year, the board plans to hold a final round of hearings, evaluating the suitability of each applicant to hold the casino license.
