A 13-year-old girl was in extremely critical condition after she was caught in the crossfire of a shootout in Harrowgate Friday night.

The child was sitting on the front steps of a home on the 3500 block of Stouton Street, near Atlantic Street, when gunfire erupted about 11:30 p.m., police said.

She ran to her home on the block, where family members laid her on the floor, realized she was bleeding from her right side, and called 911.

Officers rushed the child to Temple University Hospital. She was immediately taken into surgery for a gunshot wound to the right side of her torso, police said.

A witness said she saw two men running down Atlantic Street, guns in hand and shooting, according to preliminary information provided by police.

They were described as two black males wearing hooded sweatshirts tight around their heads.
