Cops: Pair stole from elderly couple by posing as PGW workers

Philadelphia police are looking for the men who stole $15,000 in jewelry from an elderly couple by posing as Philadelphia Gas Works employees.

Police said one of the men got into the couple's home on the 1300 block of North Second Street, just north of the Northern Liberties section, by pretending to work for PGW.

The man escorted the couple into the basement, and another suspect burglarized the home, taking $15,000 in jewelry. The two men then fled.

The incident happened at about 2 p.m. on Feb. 23. Police released surveillance video and photographs this week.

Police described one suspect as a white man between 20 and 30 years old who was wearing black pants with white stripes. The other suspect was described as a 20- to 25-year-old man with acne who was wearing a black New York Yankees baseball cap, a black jacket and blue jeans.

Anyone who has information is asked to call 215-686-8477 (TIPS) or send a text message to 773847.
