Boy, 10, seen waving toy gun turns self in
A 10-year-old boy seen waving a gun in surveillance video has turned himself in and told investigators the weapon was a toy.
A Philadelphia police spokeswoman said officers spoke with the 10-year-old boy and a 13-year-old boy on Thursday in connection with the incidents. Neither boy had been charged as of this morning.
Earlier Thursday, police released surveillance footage that shows the child brandishing what appeared to be a handgun in the Tioga neighborhood.
The video shows the boy pulling a gun from his waistband and pointing it at a girl near 16th and Ontario streets on Monday evening. The girl holds up her hands, as though she is being robbed, and walks away, seemingly unharmed.
The video also shows a group of young people climbing on an SUV.
Later, a man walking on 16th Street was stopped by the group; one of them pulled out a handgun and said "hey buddy," police say. The man ran into a nearby house and called 911.
The two boys arrived with their parents to speak with investigators.
Police said the boys say the weapon was a toy, though investigators won't know for sure until they obtain it.
