Autopsy results released in Pitman murder-suicide

Officials say a Gloucester County father beat and strangled his young son to death and fatally beat his wife, before taking his own life.

Francis Adolf; his wife, 44-year-old Bonnie Adolf; and their 6-year-old son, Francis Jr., were found dead in the family's Pitman home on Tuesday.

The Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office said today that an autopsy showed Francis Adolf, 49, hanged himself.

Bonnie Adolf died of blunt-force injury to the head. Francis Jr. died from strangulation and a blunt-force head injury, prosecutors said.

Officials didn't release further details about any motive for the deaths.

The prosecutor's office said in a statement Tuesday that Francis Adolf had "left writings indicating he intended to harm himself and family members."

There hadn't been reports of past domestic violence at the home, authorities said.
