PSPCA: 83 chickens rescued from central Pa. home

A total of 83 chickens were rescued from a home in Dornsife, Northumberland County, after the birds were found in unsanitary conditions with insufficient shelter, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Animal welfare workers rescued 83 chickens from a central Pennsylvania home Friday afternoon.

The hens and roosters discovered at the Dornsife, Pa. residence were living in unsanitary conditions and had insufficient shelter to protect them from the cold, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania SPCA.

Humane Law Enforcement officers also found two dead chickens and one dead goose when they executed a search warrant at the property, in response to a tip, the PSPCA said.

The agency is continuing to investigate the incident.
