D.A. raids Chester Police evidence room

Mayor says they were looking for missing evidence.

THE Delaware County District Attorney's Office conducted a raid on the Chester Police Department's evidence room yesterday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the D.A.'s Office confirmed.

Emily Harris, Delco D.A. spokeswoman, did not say what sparked the raid or what investigators recovered. Chester Police Commissioner Joseph Bail Jr. did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Chester Mayor John Linder's spokeswoman, Summer Freeman, said the search warrant for the raid was sealed, but confirmed that the D.A.'s Office is looking into allegations of missing evidence at the police department. She said the mayor did not initiate the probe.

Citing anonymous sources, the weekly Chester/Community Spirit said the raid was sparked by a scope from an AR-15 that went missing and was returned after officers started asking questions.
