Five minutes with ...

Today we talk with West Catholic offensive lineman-defensive lineman Jake Zuzek:

Who's your biggest role model?

My parents. They raised me to be the person who I am today.

What's your favorite sports movie?

"Remember the Titans."

Who's your favorite professional athlete?

RB Jerome Bettis. I'm a Steelers fan, and he was my favorite player growing up.

What's something people probably don't know about you?

When I first meet someone, I'm really shy. But as soon as I get to know them, I never shut up.

What's your jersey number and why did you pick it?

50. When I started varsity as a freshman, they just gave it to me. And I ended up just sticking with it all 4 years.

What's the most memorable game you've ever played in?

The PIAA title game against Wilmington last year. I broke my leg halfway through the third quarter, and I finished the fourth quarter and two overtimes with it. We ended up losing a heartbreaker, 35-34.

What's your pregame superstition?

I just listen to my iPod. I like to be by myself and just concentrate.

Why do you like playing your position?

You're overhyped like the other positions. You're the reason why they're [skill-position players] more famous than you are. The offensive linemen are the unsung heroes of the team.

What's the best part about being a senior?

Just being part of a winning team and playing football.

What would it mean to you to be able to win a state championship?

It would mean everything, especially after losing last year's state championship game by less than a yard.
