S. Phila. man dies 2 weeks after being hit by van near ballpark

About an hour before the Phillies clinched their second straight trip to the World Series on Oct. 21, a handful of fans were knocking back beers in a parking lot across the street from Citizens Bank Park.

The gathering, inside the Jetro Lot, on Darien Street near Pattison Avenue, somehow turned into a physical altercation between two groups of men, police said.

When the fight ended, several of the participants piled into a white SUV.

The driver shifted the vehicle into reverse and struck Nick Medora, 42, who was standing nearby, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore. Medora, of Randolph Street near Oregon Avenue, in South Philly, had been involved in the altercation, Vanore said.

The SUV sped from the scene, and Medora was admitted to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with a broken arm, clavicle and ribs.

Following that night, Medora's condition deteriorated, and he died at Jefferson Hospital at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday, Vanore said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the SUV to call 215-685-3180.

Looks like it's time to stop the parking lot "fun" since the big boys don't know how to behave and situations are getting more violent. Maybe it was an accident but, come on, we all know when we've hit something and this group just left the scene. There are always a few idiots who mess things up for the rest of the people having fun.

CRQVINDEE, There is always some troll that tries to use a tragedy to push their agenda. Ban tailgating because of one fight? Settle down, this poor gentlemen went into the hospital with a broken rib and clavicle and died. According to your logic, we should ban hospitals. My condolences to the family of the victim and I hope justice is served against the white van gang.

It's funny, I've read so much trash talk about Yankee fans but reading this article isn't this the second murder at Citizen Bank Park parking lot after a Phillies Game? Yeah you Phillies fans are all class!

lemmingpuss- Are you as clueless as you appear or are you just putting a show on for us. First off, the initial incident surrounded some trash that were chumps who went to the Phillies game (doesn't mean they are actual fans). The incident from a few weeks ago could have happened in a park, subway, etc. Don't pin things that happen well after a game on being a Phillies fan. For that matter, if a guy goes home after a game and beats up a neighbor are you going to blame the fact he's a Phillies fan for that. Finally, with what goes on in the Bronx, you have balls talking about any other fan base.

Once again, the low class zeros in Philly strike again. It's time to keep these people in the trailer park for the weekend. No more weekend furloughs. lemmingsrus, I have to agree with you even as a Phils fan.

So much for that idiotic tailgating. His final tailgate will be from the back of a hearse. R.I.P.

Yet again, stereotypical Philly sports fans at their best. Pathetic city.

Something has to be done about those old hillbillies getting drunk on cheap beer and then wanting to get into a fight, only later to lose and try to run the other person down. To Longshanks, those ole boys from the trailer parks can be pretty testy. Just look both ways before crossing any streets from now on. LOL
