Man held in text-stalking of U. Darby ex

A Philadelphia man was so obsessed with his ex-girlfriend that he left her thousands of disturbing text and voice-mail messages in a 12-day period, including 260 in a single day, police said.

A Philadelphia man was so obsessed with his ex-girlfriend that he left her thousands of disturbing text and voice-mail messages in a 12-day period, including 260 in a single day, police said.

The sheer volume of calls and texts that Brian K. Moore is alleged to have made on that one day would mean that, on average, he called or texted his ex every 5 1/2 minutes in a 24-hour period.

"This guy's a nut," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Moore, 39, was arrested Tuesday at his Center City workplace and charged with harassment, stalking, terroristic threats and violating a protection-from-abuse order.

A district judge ordered him held on $2 million bail yesterday because of the serious nature of the threats, Chitwood said.

The victim, who is in her 30s, has 18-month-old twins with Moore and lives in Upper Darby.

Her plight was brought to the attention of police by the Delaware County District Attorney's Office, Chitwood said.

The woman, who had received a protection-from-abuse order against Moore at an unspecified time, told police that he had been harassing her for the last six months. The frequency of the harassment escalated on April 30 and continued until Moore's arrest, Chitwood said.

In a 12-day period during that time, Moore allegedly called and texted the victim thousands of times, including the 260 messages he left in one day.

According to the criminal affidavit, in one text message Moore threatens the woman, telling her that "u n I have a date wit destiny real soon."

"Im takin u wit me," he wrote. "U n da face and me n da head."

In a separate message, Moore again referenced killing the victim and himself, but hinted that he would take their children's lives as well, the affidavit noted.

"MURDER SUICIDE THATS THE THING NOW ADAYS THIS THE WAY THAT I HAVE CHOOSE 4 US 2 DIE," he allegedly wrote. "[We] WILL LEAVE THIS WORLD TOGETHER THATS MY WORD ON DA TWINS I CANT C."

The victim also told police that Moore had followed her from her home and her workplace and that he had called her and told her what she was wearing as she was walking into her house, Chitwood said.

He also often "appeared" on the same SEPTA El train that the victim used, court documents said.

"This was a tragedy waiting to happen," Chitwood said.

When police went looking for Moore on Tuesday and knocked on his mother's door, they received an unusual response.

"Mom said, 'He isn't here, he hasn't been here and he should be in jail,' " Chitwood said. "She told us he was a violent guy."

Upper Darby and Philadelphia police arrested Moore about 7 p.m. at his job at a deli at 19th and Chestnut streets.

Moore's criminal record began when he was 18 and includes arrests for burglary, arson, aggravated assault, drugs and numerous weapons violations, Chitwood said.
