A Crescentville woman was left bound and seminude in Fairmount Park yesterday, a day after she was kidnapped by at least two men and raped, police said.
The 28-year-old woman told detectives that she was abducted Monday night near Lawndale Avenue and Comly Street, an investigator said.
It was unclear last night exactly how the abduction unfolded, or what type of car was used to abduct her.
The investigator said the woman believed that at least two men were involved and that they had taken her to a house - she didn't know where - where they raped her.
Her horrifying ordeal ended about 4 p.m. yesterday, when the kidnappers dropped her off at Belmont Mansion Drive near Chamounix Drive. An hour later, a passer-by spotted her and called police.
The woman was initially taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where she was treated for undisclosed injuries.
Her condition wasn't released, but an investigator said last night that she was "doing OK."
No description of the suspects was released.
The mere mention of the park in connection with a rape called to mind the notorious Fairmount Park rapist, the cold-blooded predator who raped and murdered 30-year-old medical student Rebecca Park in the woods in West Fairmount Park in 2003.
That same year, he raped another woman near Kelly Drive and Fountain Green Road, and was also connected through DNA evidence to the rape of a woman in Pennypack Park in 2007. He has never been identified.
