Teen dies after falling 8 stories from KOP apt. complex

A 14-year-old girl fell to her death from the eighth floor of a King of Prussia apartment complex last evening, according to Upper Merion, Montgomery County, police.

She was taken by the Lafayette Ambulance Squad to Mercy Suburban Hospital.  She was pronounced dead there shortly thereafter, according to Upper Merion Police Lt. Michael Martin.

Police and the King of Prussia Fire Company first responded to the call to the C building at the Marquis Apartments on Dekalb Pike at 6:18 p.m.  The girl, who lived at the complex, had climbed outside but police believe it was an accident and that she did not intend to jump.  She landed on the building's parking garage.

Upper Merion Police Lt. Michael Martin police said the investigation is ongoing.

"I can confirm that it appears to be accidental," Martin said. "There's no foul play or suicide suspected."

Martin said investigators have an idea why the girl climbed out, but that the information was still preliminary.

The Marquis Apartments have been in the news several times the past few years. Most recently, they were the site of a double killing that included the death of a baby and her grandmother.

Raghunandan Yandamuri is accused of murder in the Oct. 22, 2012 incident, in which he allegedly tried to kidnap 10-month-old Saanvi Venna, and ended up killing not only her but her grandmother, Satayrathi Venna, 61.

The grandmother's body was stabbed. The baby's body was found gagged and put in a large blue suitcase.

In 2011, residents of 400 units at The Marquis apartments in King of Prussia went without water when a pump broke Christmas morning, causing officials to declare three buildings "unfit for habitation" until the pump was fixed.

Also, in 2010, Montgomery County authorities arrested Mexican-born Charbel Pita Rosales and accused him of operating a drug gang out of the complex.
