Germantown school closed after mold found

An elementary school in the city's Germantown section will be closed Thursday after "traces" of mold were discovered in several classrooms, the Philadelphia School District said.
The district received a report Wednesday about possible mold contamination at John B. Kelly Elementary School, 5116 Pulaski Ave., and an investigation was immediately launched, the district said in a statement.
"Due to heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) issues, traces of mold were found in several classrooms, and an immediate and comprehensive plan to remediate the mold and investigate the cause was put in place," the district said.

"Working with a highly qualified and experienced environmental remediation contractor, work began to remove the problem at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday and should be finished sometime this evening," the district said.
The school will be closed Thursday to students and staff while the district investigates what caused the mold.
The district said it would provide an update at noon Thursday for parents, staff, and the school community.
Schools in Monroe Township in Gloucester County were closed this week because of a mold problem.
Cheltenham High School's library was closed this week because of mold.
