Detectives are searching for a young man and woman who shot a 60-year-old man in the stomach during a robbery in West Philadelphia two weeks ago, police said Thursday.
About 1:40 a.m. on Sept. 1, the victim was walking on North 53rd Street, near Girard Avenue, when the duo robbed him at gunpoint. After the victim complied with their demands, the woman shot him once in the stomach, Lt. John Walker of Southwest Detectives said.
The victim was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition in the intensive-care unit, Walker said. Police have not yet been able to talk to him.
Walker said the young man and woman first followed the victim into a store and watched him taking out money from a cash machine.
The duo is then seen, in video released by police Thursday, walking on 53rd Street, with the victim about half a block behind them. They then turn back and confront the victim, who appears to have difficulty walking. The woman pushes the victim, then shoots him, Walker said. After he is shot, the male accomplice rifles through the victim’s pockets. Walker said it was unclear what, if anything, was stolen.
The robbers were both described as black, of thin build, and wearing all-black clothing. Anyone with information about them is asked to call the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477) or the Southwest Detective Division at 215-686-3183. Tips, which can be anonymous, can also be submitted online.
