Camden woman charged with beating her boyfriend to death with two frying pans

A 33-year-old Camden woman has been charged with fatally beating her boyfriend with two frying pans, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office announced Tuesday. The beating happened about a month ago inside a food market in Woodlynne. The boyfriend died last week.

Maleia Cole was being held Tuesday in the death of Jason Lewis, 35, also of Camden.

Officials said on Sept. 2 law enforcement authorities responded to an emergency call about an aggravated assault of a man inside Pantry One, a food market on Mount Ephraim Avenue in Woodlynne.

When the officers arrived, Lewis was conscious but had serious head injuries, including cuts to his face, officials said in a statement.

Lewis told the officers that Cole had followed him across the street and into the store, all the while beating him repeatedly with the frying pans. Afterward, she left in the direction of her home on Mount Ephraim Avenue, he said.

He was hospitalized with pain and dizziness, and received emergency surgery, but died Sept. 26 of the injuries sustained in the attack. Cole was charged Sept. 30 with one count of first-degree murder.

Cole was apprehended by authorities with the U.S. Marshal’s Office on Monday in Camden. She was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility.
