Philly woman, 86, charged with bank robbery

An 86-year-old West Philadelphia woman using a walker was arrested after allegedly demanding money while armed with a handgun at a bank Tuesday afternoon in University City, police said.

An 86-year-old West Philadelphia woman who uses a walker has been charged with robbing a University City bank at gunpoint, police said.

About 2:05 p.m. Tuesday, University of Pennsylvania police responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the TD Bank at 3735 Walnut St. Officers were met by bank employees who said Emily Coakley of the 6200 block of Addison Street had demanded $400 from a customer representative while displaying a revolver.

Coakley was at the bank and was arrested without incident, and the handgun was taken into evidence. Fox29 showed video of the woman being escorted by police from the bank.

Coakley was charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and related offenses.
