Off-duty N.J. cop indicted for allegedly pointing gun at another off-duty cop

An off-duty New Jersey police officer was indicted last week on charges that he pointed a gun at another off-duty officer during a confrontation last year in Burlington County.
Teddy Cerra, 43, of Southampton, allegedly was driving under the influence on Nov. 1 when an off-duty Lumberton officer began following him.
They both stopped on the shoulder in the 300 block of Red Lion Road in Southampton, and Cerra left his vehicle and pointed a gun at the other officer, said Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina.
The other officer, who also had gotten out of his vehicle, showed his police identification, then drove away. Cerra allegedly pursued the other officer at high speed and was eventually arrested by the New Jersey State Police after hitting a vehicle and a mailbox.
Cerra, a sergeant with the Franklin Township Police Department in Somerset County, was suspended without pay after his arrest.
His indictment, dated Sept. 20, charges him with second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree aggravated assault, and fourth-degree aggravated assault. He also received summonses for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor or drugs, and reckless driving.
