Police are seeking a 21-year-old man in a home-invasion robbery and assault in Upper Roxborough this week during which an elderly victim was tied up and assaulted, authorities said Thursday.
The suspect, Mark McLaughlin, was the former next-door neighbor of the two victims, police said.
McLaughlin is accused of entering the home on the 7300 block of Hill Road at about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday. He tied up a 75-year-old man, who lives in the home, and assaulted him, police said. As the victim’s 74-year-old sister was sleeping in her second-floor bedroom, he stole the woman’s purse and car keys from her bedroom, then fled in her vehicle, police said.
Lt. Dan Brooks of the Northwest Detective Division said the injured man was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, with complaint of chest pains, broken vertebrae and possible internal bleeding.
Anyone with information on McLaughlin’s whereabouts is asked to call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353. Tips, which can be anonymous, can also be submitted online.
