A 29-year-old man was shot in the back outside a Target store in the 7400 block of Bustleton Avenue after stopping to help a friend who was involved in a fight, police said.

The man had been driving to the store at 3:30 p.m. on Friday when he saw his friend involved in a “physical altercation,” Philadelphia police said. Another man at the scene pulled out a gun and fired seven times, hitting the 29-year-old in the back before fleeing the scene in a red sedan, police said.

The shooting victim was taken to Aria-Jefferson Health Torresdale hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said. A police S.W.A.T. team cleared the building, and shoppers were interviewed by police on site.

At 11:45 p.m. Friday, a “person of interest” turned himself in at the police station. On Saturday afternoon, police said that no charges had been filed and that the investigation was continuing.
