2 dead in pair of triple shootings in Philly

Two men were killed in a pair of triple shootings Wednesday night in different parts of the city, Philadelphia police said.

The first shooting happened about 8:40 p.m. on the 1500 block of South Stanley Street in Grays Ferry. Responding officers found two wounded men, including the one who would die, on the street and a third in a house on South Napa Street two blocks away.

Police said Rodney Copeland Jr., who was shot in the chest, was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he died at 10:40 p.m. He had lived on the 1600 block of South Napa.

A 21-year-old man who was found on the street with Copeland had been shot in the back. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian, where he was in stable condition, according to police. The third man, a 20-year-old who had been shot in a foot, was treated at Penn Presbyterian and taken to Police Headquarters to be interviewed by homicide detectives.

Police said they had not identified any possible suspects, and investigators have not disclosed if they have established a motive.

Nearly three hours later, about 11:30 p.m., gunfire erupted on the 2500 block of North Dover Street in North Philadelphia. Officers called to the block for a report of person with a gun found three men who had been shot.

A 24-year-old man whose name has not been released was taken to Temple University Hospital with numerous gunshot wounds to the chest, back and legs. He died at 12:06 a.m. Thursday, police said.

A 17-year-old, who also had been shot numerous times, and a 24-year-old man, who had a bullet wound in his right leg, also were taken to Temple and reported in stable condition, police said.

Police said investigators were seeking a motive.
