Logan man pleads guilty, gets 20 to 48 years in murder of mother

A Logan man charged in the 2013 shooting death of his mother pleaded guilty Friday in a deal with prosecutors and was sentenced to 20 to 48 years in prison by a Philadelphia judge.

Keenan McIntosh, 25, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, aggravated assault and a gun charge in the Dec. 29, 2013, slaying of his mother, Patrice McIntosh, 50, in the home they shared on Old York Road near Courtland Street.

Common Pleas Court Judge Sandy L.V. Byrd immediately sentenced McIntosh to the time in prison in a plea agreement negotiated with the District Attorney's Office.

Police responded that morning to the house following a domestic disturbance report. According to police, the first officer on the scene was confronted by McIntosh, realized he had a gun and then wrestled him on the porch until backup officers helped subdue and handcuff the suspect. Patrice McIntosh was found in the master bedroom, shot once in the head.

McIntosh's trial was delayed by almost two years of psychiatric treatment after it was determined he was not competent to stand trial. Last year, McIntosh was ruled competent to be tried although his attorneys said they would use an insanity defense.

Neither defense attorney Geoffrey Kilroy nor Assistant District Attorney Louis Tumolo could be reached Friday for comment.
