Car fleeing police strikes 3 vehicles in Germantown, injuring 3

Police apprehended one man who was in the fleeing vehicle and were searching for a second man. Both had tried to rob a home in Germantown, police said.

Three people were injured Wednesday morning after the cars they were in were hit by another vehicle that was being chased by police in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, authorities said.

The injured were taken to Einstein Medical Center in stable condition.

The drama started just before 10 a.m. when two men fled from a home they were trying to rob on the 5000 block of Wade Street in Germantown, police said. Nothing was taken from the home.

The two men drove off in a black Acura sedan. It was not immediately clear what spooked them from the home. Police officers called to the scene tried to stop the car at Wade and Manheim Streets, but the Acura fled.

Officers pursued the fleeing Acura. About a mile later, on School House Lane near Wissahickon Avenue, the Acura slammed into three occupied vehicles — an SUV and two other cars, police said.

The two men in the Acura got out of the vehicle and fled. One was apprehended in a nearby apartment complex, and the other was able to escape, police said. Police were still searching for the second man just after noon Wednesday.

The man who was taken into custody was brought to Temple University Hospital for injuries he sustained from the crash, police said. He was in stable condition and was expected to face charges related to robbery and gun violations. His name was not immediately released.

Police said a gun was recovered from the Acura and another was recovered outside of the vehicle.

Two people in one of the cars that was hit and a lone occupant in a second car complained of pain from the crash. All three were taken to Einstein in stable condition, police said.

A lone occupant in the SUV that was hit was not injured, police said.

The William Penn Charter School in East Falls, about 0.7 miles away from the multi-vehicle crash scene, was temporarily put on lockdown as police searched for the second male, but the lockdown has been lifted, police said.
