Woman struck, killed by SEPTA train in Ambler

A woman was struck and killed by a SEPTA Regional Rail train near the Ambler Station Sunday morning.

A woman was struck and killed by a SEPTA Regional Rail train near the Ambler Station Sunday morning.

The engineer of a train traveling from Doylestown toward Center City about 11:10 a.m. saw the woman standing in the track area just north of the station, near Mt. Pleasant and Railroad avenues, a SEPTA spokesman said.

Though the engineer applied the emergency brakes, there was not enough time for the train to stop, and it made contact with the woman, the spokesman said.

She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity was not released, and it was not immediately clear why she was standing in the track area.

No injuries were reported to passengers of the train. They were walked to the Ambler Station and placed on shuttle buses to complete their commutes.

Service along the Lansdale/Doylestown line was suspended for about three hours as an investigation ensued. Trains were back up and running by 2:30 p.m.
