Woman killed in home with two young children inside

A 27-year-old woman was shot and killed in a North Philadelphia rowhouse where two children were present, according to homicide detectives.

Police said the shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in a second floor apartment of the residence on the 3000 block of Old York Road.

When police arrived, they were directed upstairs by a neighbor.  Police entered a bedroom and found the woman had been shot multiple times in the upper body and arms, and that the gunman had fled. A boy, 3, and girl, 6, were inside the home at the time of the killing. The girl was believed to be the woman's daughter. It's believed the victim was babysitting the boy.

Homicide detectives said they were still conducting interviews and had no further information to release on the suspect, who was believed to be an acquaintance or boyfriend of the woman.

Police were not yet releasing the victim's name. The children were not harmed, but were being evaluated.  It was not clear if they had witnessed the killing.
