Crashing tree disables SEPTA train in Wallingford

A SEPTA rail car was disabled in Wallingford, Delaware County, after a tree fell on it last night, helping cause delays this morning.

Heather Redfern, a SEPTA spokeswoman, said the incident occurred about 10 p.m. when four passengers and crew were on board the rail car traveling the Media/Elwyn Line. No one was injured. The tree fell onto wires first, the collapsed onto the train, damaging the electrical system on top that powers it.

The train was stuck on the eastbound track, causing delays of up to 15 minutes early this morning.  However, trains were running on schedule or close to it by 8:30 a.m.
