Swastikas painted on wall at N.E. Philadelphia synagogue
Police are poring over surveillance video in an effort to find out who spray painted white swastikas at a synagogue in the Rhawnhurst neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia.
The swastikas were discovered Monday morning on a brick wall just outside of the Congregations of Ner Zedek on the 7500 block of Bustleton Avenue, according to staff at the synagogue. City clean-up crews arrived quickly to wash away the images.
Staff said it was not the first case of vandalism. A few years ago, swastikas were painted in the lawn and on the walls. Just three months ago a rock was thrown through a side door glass window and remains boarded up.
A KKK rally took place Saturday on the 6700 block of Torresdale Avenue, but police are calling this a coincidence and unrelated to the vandalism.
The Northeast Detective Division and snyagogue staff continue to scan through 14 hours of surveillance footage from three different newly installed cameras.
