Suspect rams Philly officer with car in Kensington, hurts 2nd officer in struggle

A burglary suspect attempting to flee police in the Kensington section of Philadelphia overnight struck one officer with a vehicle, then injured another during a resulting struggle, according to East Detectives.

Police said the incident began about 1:45 a.m. today when two plainclothes officers in a police car attempted to stop the man, who was a suspect in robberies in Bensalem and Philadelphia. The suspect, a 41-year-old white male, was still in his car at East Tioga and H Street.

As they approached, the suspect struck one officer with the car he was in, then took off, striking the police car and other parked cars, police said.

A second officer attempted to get the man out of the car, but was injured in the attempt as he was dragged.

Eventually, the suspect was brought under control. He was arrested, but his identity was not immediately released.

The two officers were taken to a local hospital and treated for leg injuries.  Both are in stable condition.

The suspect was also taken to a hospital for observation.

None appeared to be seriously injured, according to police.
