Special election set to fill seat vacated by Brendan Boyle

A special election will be held March 24 to fill the state House of Representatives seat vacated by Rep. Brendan Boyle.

Boyle represented parts of Northeast Philadelphia and Montgomery County in the state house. He vacated the seat on Jan. 2. Shortly after, he was sworn in as a U.S. Congressman representing the 13th Congressional District.

Speaker of the House St. Rep. Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) announced the special election this afternoon. In a statement, Turzai said the respective political parties will determine the process of selecting their candidates.
