Shamong man charged in Cinnaminson toddler's death

The death of a 1-year-old foster child at a home in Cinnaminson last month has been ruled a homicide and the boyfriend of the toddler's foster parent has been charged with murder today, authorities said today.

Steven Donaldson, 29, of Wesickamen Drive, Shamong, was caring for Claudia Nunes in his girlfriend's home when he called 9-1-1 to report the baby girl was unresponsive Feb. 12, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

The infant, whose birthday was the day before, was pronounced dead a short time after medics arrived at Kennedy University Hospital in Cherry Hill.

An autopsy by the county medical examiner concluded Claudia died of blunt force trauma to the head, the prosecutor's office said.

Authorities did not say how the child suffered the head injury.

Donaldson surrendered to police Tuesday and was released after posting $250,000 cash bail.
