SEPTA Trenton Regional Rail service resumes after reported fatality

Train service along SEPTA's Trenton Regional Rail line has resumed following a two-hour shutdown due to a reported fatality involving an Amtrak train in the area of the Croydon train station.

An Amtrak spokeswoman said a Keystone train heading from Harrisburg to New York City struck a "trespasser" at about 1:30 p.m. and all train service along the Northeast Corridor tracks between Philadelphia and Trenton was immediately halted.

The condition of the trespasser could not be confirmed by Amtrak, but SEPTA said in press releases that the incident was a "reported fatality involving an Amtrak train." Local police could not confirm the details of the incident by 4 p.m.

SEPTA said commuters using the Trenton line should expect residual delays in service for the next couple hours.

"Train #743 will be the first to operate from Center City, scheduled to depart Market East Station at 4:16pm," SEPTA said. "Train #7250 will be the first train departing from Trenton Transit Center to Center City at 4:16pm. Delays are expected as service levels return to normal."

The Croydon station is the fourth-to-last stop for Trenton-bound trains heading north from Center City. The Trenton line runs on the Amtrak-owned Northeast Corridor.
