Razor blades found taped to Delco playground equipment

Police are looking for someone who duct-taped razor blades to playground equipment at a Delaware County park.

Police are looking for someone who duct-taped razor blades to playground equipment at a Delaware County park.

Maintenance crews made the discovery Tuesday at Eaton Park in Brookhaven Borough. Police are calling the incident "an isolated situation," according to a safety alert released through the borough website.

Officials warned area parents to check all playground equipment before using due to the actions of the "thoughtless criminal." No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The discovery came about a week after a 2-year-old child was reportedly cut by razor blades affixed to equipment at an Illinois playground. Images of the toddler's injured hands were widely shared on Facebook, and the story was picked up by media outlets nationwide.

Police on Tuesday inspected all Brookhaven Borough parks, declaring them safe as of 4 p.m. Still, the investigation is considered ongoing. Officials said patrol and plainclothes officers will check area playgrounds during every shift.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Tim Habich at 610-876-6142.
