More victims accuse Bucks psychiatrist of fondling

Five more victims have come forward with accusations against a Doylestown psychiatrist arrested last month for allegedly inappropriately touching a patient, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Five more victims have come forward with accusations against a Doylestown psychiatrist arrested last month for allegedly inappropriately touching a patient, the Bucks County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

Dr. Basem Shlewiet was arraigned Friday afternoon on 10 additional counts of indecent assault and released on $250,000 unsecured bond.

Shlewiet was initially arrested Jan. 23 after investigators received reports from three separate young women alleging he touched them during a criminal manner during the course of their treatment.

The District Attorney's Office released the information to the media and urged anyone else who may have been similarly victimized to come forward. Since the appeal, five additional victims have brought allegations against Shlewiet, prosecutors said.

Shlewiet is board-certified in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry and is also a licensed family therapist, according to his website. He has served in the past as medical director of two Doylestown child and adolescent psychiatric facilities that offer partial hospitalization and residential programs.

In addition to the newest charges, Shlewiet also faces two counts each of unlawful contact with a minor and corruption of minors, as well as seven counts of indecent assault, one of them involving a person under the age of 16 years old.

The District Attorney's Office has asked that anyone else who may have been subject to inappropriate contact with Shlewiet call Det. Mark Zielinski at 215-348-6629.
