Well, this idea was destined to go down the tubes and land the men who thought of it in deep water.
Two men were cited by state police for tubing down flood-prone Chester Creek during Hurricane Sandy Monday.
According to state police, Ricky Sheller, 20, of Glen Mills, and Matthew Sharkey, 20, of Lansdowne, had the brilliant idea to take inner tube rides down Chester Creek around 1:30 p.m., just after the National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the creek.
Numerous troopers responded to the area of Forge and Stoney Bank roads in Middletown Township to grab the floaters and help them safely ashore, police said.
State police said the creek did flood, though they did not have flood levels immediately available.
Both Sheller and Sharkey were issued citations for disorderly conduct and released.
No big deal. Sounds like some of the dumb S""" I did when I was their age jfly1222- When I was in the National Guard, we had to rescue an individual who decided to float down a creek in an air raft during a storm. Twenty people had to risk their lives in a floooded stream pulling that halfwit to safety. Did he thank us? No. We had to pull him out kicking and screaming, just minutes before a wall of floodwater came in and busted the raft against a rock.
If drowning was these two's idea of fun, I wonder what else they will try next.

Here comes the gestapo! carl and sons

THE SOCIALIST REPUBLIK OF AMERIKA WILL CONTROL ALL TUBING AFTER THE ELECTION. dirkdiglovitch
So i have the right to kill the baby inside my body but not myself? What's up with that? Give these ADULTS a break. I know - the police would have to risk their own lives to save these guys. Using that logic/excuse the police can regulate pretty much everything. JerryCurlan
If they died, that's two idiots out of the gene pool, and possible candidates for a Darwin Award. zombieboy_215
Bradley65, it's your mentality that's the problem. People get killed doing dumb things when they're not supposed to like tubing down a flood creek during a hurricane and you see that as "fun." Then if they had died, their families would have tried to sue the state or borough. Idiot. —sharkmeat

People get killed doing all kinds of things, idiot. Not just 'dumb' things. Get a life and stop worrying about two kids who tried to have a little fun. Go outside and get some fresh air. Bradley85- Psst - looks like you might be the only one who can appreciate this:
When I was 11 or 12 years old I was taking my flat-bottomed row boat out in the surf at Ocean City EN JAY on a daily basis.
One day I just kept rowing farther and farther out until I reached a fishing pound which from shore looked as though it was located on the horizon.
When I finally got around to rowing back in - supper time - I couldn't understand why there were mobs of people standing on the beach clutching their kids along with four or five local cops.
Seems they were all worried about me and my rowboat.
what law did they break? eaglesfillthesky- It's a local ordinance, which is a law, just not a federal or state law. Bottom line: THEY WERE CITED. A citation is like a ticket for speeding: It's a formal slap on the wrist you get for doing something you're not supposed to do, but you get punished without having a misdemeanor or felony put on your police record.
bbk713 - The one about not pursuing happiness if it involves something other than sitting on your couch being entertained by watching people taking risks within the context of a "reality show".
Another example of Obama's nanny state. zangtron- Last I heard Governor Christie wasn't debunking "Obama's nanny state".
Au contraire - he was wholeheartedly endorsing it!
Who's idea of fun?
When Mitt Romney was in his early twenties his idea of fun was avoiding military service to his country by wandering around the countryside in France knocking on doors to get people to join his church.
Look what a fun guy he's turned out to be - aw shucks.
When these twenty-year-old tubers grow up I'd like to have a beer with them - if they're still around. He Visto Todo
This comment has been deleted. sharkmeat- I'm sorry, did they break the law? Stop trying to protect people from themselves. It isn't your job.
- Great theory, however it is human nature to reach out to someone in danger. If professional first responders turn their back, an innocent Good Samaritan will likely put self at risk. Either way, moronic behavior potentially puts other people in danger. It would be easier if after 'rescue' they could be taken straight to a public square for flogging. Citations, fines, etc. are too abstract and far removed from the transgression to deter anyone.
HokieMon - Nothing in the article indicates that they were calling for help or were stranded in the creek, just that they didn't like the fact that these two knuckleheads were tubing down the creek.
God, calm down you idiots. So they tried to have a little fun and lived on the wild side. Such a foreign concept to you conformist zombies grinding out such a dull and depressing living. Bradley85
The state police should have just watched, and then started clapping if the idiots got in trouble. Then, the funeral should be televised so everyone would know why these two morons died. kidretdes- Yet another endorsement of lowering the drinking age to 18. People who can't walk, can't tube. Get with the program people.
Why rescue them? Just let Darwinism take its course. Dragon76
Let them be. It's about time the state stopped protecting people from themselves. OldCityJoe
